The story
Transfer services compress photos, require an account or delete everything too soon. Navette, first called FileEx, is my own service: drop the files, share the link, and the recipient sees them arrive while the upload is still running.
iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPEG in the background: the natural follow-up to HEIConverter. It was the first project deployed on Infra.
What I did
- Chunked, resumable uploads: a network drop pauses, then the upload resumes at the right byte
- Chunk size adapted to the connection, three files in parallel
- ZIP archives streamed on the fly, with no size limit and no CPU cost
- Touch-friendly full-screen viewer: swipe, pinch, pull down to close
- Account-free management through an owner token, of which only the hash is stored
- Files identified by their signature before being displayed
