ChâtaignFinder

A map of where to pick chestnuts around Grenoble, with cross-checked sources and a confidence score.

The story

Every autumn, the same question: where to go? The good spots are scattered across forums, blogs and hiking guides, rarely with a place to park.

ChâtaignFinder cross-checks those accounts against IGN forest data and OpenStreetMap, and tells for each point where the information comes from and how far to trust it.

What I did

  • 72 pure chestnut stands, 2,770 hectares, taken from the IGN forest database
  • About 640 hiking guides read, points scored from 1 to 5 with the full breakdown
  • Car parks merged from four sources, plus likely ones to check on site
  • Geolocation, list sorted by distance, directions in one tap
  • Your own spots kept on your device, never sent anywhere
  • No data scraped from services whose terms forbid it
